October Scavenger Hunt

1.a) Learning to cite and source– Scavenger hunt 1.b)

“According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to “plagiarize” means

  • to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one’s own
  • to use (another’s production) without crediting the source
  • to commit literary theft
  • to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.

In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else’s work and lying about it afterward.” What is plagiarism?

2. a) What does by-nc-sa mean?  By-nc-sa are laws in which you may or may not use in way’s to the original publishers liking’s. “By” means attribution, you must (when using this photo) acknowledged the reader or user that it’s not your work and that it’s someone else’s but your just using the idea or image. “Nc” means noncommercial you cannot make any profit from your work. Unless the original owner of that property gives you the “ok” to do so. “Sa” means share alike, if you alter or change the property in anyway you must keep the same license as it was. b) free digital photos  is pretty good compared to flickr or Compfight. It’s in my opinion the same thing as both of the other site’s.

“Am I free to copy facts and ideas?”

“Yes. You are free to report the facts and ideas embodied in another person’s article or web page. Copyright only protects the expression — the combination of words and structure that expresses the factual information — not the facts themselves.”

This means that you can take the idea of the topic. What your not allowed to do is take word for word what he said about that topic or anything about it. What you should do is read through what he/she said, get a good idea of what they said then wright it in your own words about that topic of what they said.
