The Manifesto

In class we have created our schools manifesto. But there is one question that hasn’t been answered. The question is, should video games be completely banned during school hours (except lunch). This means, from 9am-11:45am and from 12:45pm-3pm you are not allowed to play or have any type of video game open (exception: school based video games). I agree that we should close all video games during class time because, it not only distracts the user, but also the people around them. If none school based video games are played during the school year, that student could possibly fall behind in course work and not be able to finished that course in time. I think you should not be allowed to play none school based games during school hours.

My Friday

Today, was just another great Friday. It started off waiting in the classroom on my phone listening to some tunes. Then once class was started I was asked to work in the Commons on whatever my heart desired. I chose math because I wanted to finish the section I was working on. I worked  on my booklet as well as I did a online quiz. Around 10:30 everyone was asked to go into the classroom to make our manifesto. So far, our manifesto consists of what we value in our school. Once lunch came around, I walked back home to go eat lunch. After finishing I walked back to school, to find everyone already back and I to be late. That brings me to where I am now, sitting in the Commons writing on my blog. After this I will be working on math again. But after school, that is when my Friday really begins.

Eco Game

Liam, Owen and I are working on a Eco game together. At this moment it’s still in its testing, but we have a few ideas for our final product. In our game there are destruction cards, which are more naturally accruing disasters. With theses cards you can take away one or maybe two cards (they aren’t very powerful). Or skipping a players turns. There are also Helping Cards, with theses cards you can play more than one card, that turn. Or pick up an extra card when it’s your turn. Then there’s the human’s. You don’t get this card until you  have you entire Eco system. When you get a human, you pick a card, which will tell you what specific type of career that human has. We are still working out the different types of humans. The point of the game is to whip out the other peoples Eco systems. So far the tests games have gone good, we are just missing a few cards to help the game move more smoothly.

What happened yesterday night at school?

Yesterday, January the 16 was the open house at Inquiry Hub. I greeted people at the front door, and handed them a flier talking about what we offer and how we learn here at IHub. Once all of the students and parents who attended the presentation were siting down and watching it, it was my job to refill the cookies. During the presentation, Owen, Liam, Kayla, Gabe and I were siting in the Lounge/Lunch room drawling on a peace of paper. Once the presentations were finished Hanna and I gathered a group of people together to start our tour in the Commons. We walked our group around the inside of the school. We showed them all of the spaces we use to do our school work, as well as answering the questions they had for us. The tour went well in my opinion, everybody had a question to ask us. After our tour we had many thanks from the parents. After Hanna and I finished our tour I thought I deserved a cookie. After eating my  cookie, I met up with Liam and Owen in the Commons. The projector was playing the video of the garden being built and a few other things to. After the cookies were all eaten I decided that I should probably head home.

Could I be friends with the protagonist in my novel?

I believe I could be friends with the men in Canadian armed forces, because I believe everything they believed in.

The men who went over seas were wanting adventure, they wanted to stop the “bad guys” and have a great story with it. Looking for that adventure is exactly what I like, but the men who went overseas didn’t think that they wouldn’t come back to tell that story to their family. Leaving home, with your friends, going overseas and thinking that you are going to come back with this great story sounds awesome. I`d love to do that! But the men and women who went over there did not know what they were up against.

Those men who fought did what they thought what was right, they knew they had to stop the enemy from taking over the world. We are stronger when standing beside, friends, men we can trust and family. Fighting beside each other they felt that power together. Those men had great dedication to our country. This dedication made made us who we are now.

Knowing now what those men did, in the safety of my home, I find it amazing. The sacrifices they did for their country and around the world it can’t be beat. Hole familles names, towns, were wiped out because they were needed and called overseas. Being friends with those men who went down in history would be great. Even though those men probably didn’t think of it when they were together. They still knew they were doing the right thing. These men and women felt that they had a duty to us, to keep this our land, to keep our nation safe. I think it would be an honor to be friends with these men.

Inquiry what did I do today?

Where am I now?

Right now I am looking up why we want to space travel.

  • Finding 5 discoveries in space.

  • What has space travel changed in our world today?

Where do I want to be at 3pm

  • I want to have found at least 3 of those topics but continue to look for more at home for tomorrow.

  • Plus written about what has space travel changed in our world today.

Where am I actually at 2:45 pm

October Scavenger Hunt

1.a) Learning to cite and source– Scavenger hunt 1.b)

“According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to “plagiarize” means

  • to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one’s own
  • to use (another’s production) without crediting the source
  • to commit literary theft
  • to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.

In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else’s work and lying about it afterward.” What is plagiarism?

2. a) What does by-nc-sa mean?  By-nc-sa are laws in which you may or may not use in way’s to the original publishers liking’s. “By” means attribution, you must (when using this photo) acknowledged the reader or user that it’s not your work and that it’s someone else’s but your just using the idea or image. “Nc” means noncommercial you cannot make any profit from your work. Unless the original owner of that property gives you the “ok” to do so. “Sa” means share alike, if you alter or change the property in anyway you must keep the same license as it was. b) free digital photos  is pretty good compared to flickr or Compfight. It’s in my opinion the same thing as both of the other site’s.

4.

“Am I free to copy facts and ideas?”

“Yes. You are free to report the facts and ideas embodied in another person’s article or web page. Copyright only protects the expression — the combination of words and structure that expresses the factual information — not the facts themselves.”

This means that you can take the idea of the topic. What your not allowed to do is take word for word what he said about that topic or anything about it. What you should do is read through what he/she said, get a good idea of what they said then wright it in your own words about that topic of what they said.

Reflection

a.       What was the best suggestion or feedback that you got from classmates that commented in the forum? Who posted the comment?

The best suggestion from our classroom was from Shandra.

It was a pretty good presentation. I never knew Solar Power caused Greenhouse gases! That is something I might want to look into later!

However, I wish that you had gone a little more in-deapth with the last few power sources  they seem very interesting, and I’d love to learn more. I also wish that you had wrapped it up a little better; it ended rather abruptly.

But, all in all, I liked the design, and your information interested me. Not bad at all.

b.      Was the feedback useful? Why or why not?

Yes the feed back was useful. She told us what she liked on our topic. Also she told us what we should do to improve on for next time.  It was very useful the way she told us.

2.       Reflection

I thought that Max and I did an okay project. We needed to talk talk a bit more so I don’t talk about what he wrought about and he doesn’t talk about what I wrought about. Also i need to be more confident talking in front of everyone. But all in all i think it went pretty good.

a.      What is a key thing that you learned about inquiry learning? (the process of your inquiry)

I learned that you should have a deeper question or you have to go deeper into your question then just answering your question that you had. Ex: Is the sky blue? you shouldn’t just say yes it is. Your answer should be yes it is, because  the light reflects off the ocean and bounces up into our atmosphere.

b.      What do you need help with in order to improve?

I need to possibly just always stay in topic, at times I drift from the task at hand.
